This scholarship is part of the FX Storytelling Legacy Scholarship, which honors the legacy of John Singleton and encourages students to pursue careers in film, television production, directing or screenwriting. Additionally, USC hosts events and celebrations in his honor, further recognizing his contributions to the arts.

The City of Los Angeles established the John Singleton Short Film competition. It honors the legacy of the filmmaker and encourages diverse voices and storytelling.
